James Carville (Clinton supporter) and Bill Richardson (Obama supporter) squared off on Larry King last night, following the Pennsylvania primary.
Now, I'll be the first one to tell you that I've had plenty of 'no he didn't' moments with James Carville, where I find him talking in circles and saying phrases that I can't even wrap my mind around. But he was extremely on point last night, and Bill Richardson made it clear to me that he has no idea what he's talking about.
Following his poor performance at the Pennsylvania debate, Senator Obama almost immediately cancelled the scheduled North Carolina debate, claiming a scheduling conflict. Yeah, right.
Many bloggers and pundits have criticized ABC and Gibson and Stephanopolous for their handling of the debate and the questions they asked, but I have a different take. First let me say that this was the first debate where the moderators didn't blatantly hold Barack's hand through the entire performance and send him softballs right over the plate. Usually Hillary is the only one getting screwballs. And even then, she manages to get some solid hits (sorry for all the analogies). Let's not forget that the debates are considered Clinton's strong point, and with good reason.
So, it's pretty obvious to those outside of the Barack Kool Aid that it's not ok to criticize Obama or ask him tough questions which make him explain himself. The blogosphere was outraged that anyone would dare ask him questions about his statements, associations with dubious bedfellows, past voting records, potential lack of experience, etc. How dare we 'vet' our nominee if it's Barack? How dare anyone bring our 'transformative', above-the-fray, do-no-wrong candidate back to Earth?
I can't begin to tell you how sick and tired I am.
I'm worn out with Hillary being labeled a monster for criticising him for his short, shallow and rocky past in politics.
I'm tired as hell of the media refusing to ask him the tough questions, and getting attacked when they even try.
I'm exhausted with the double standard that the candidates have faced, and the incongruent ways with which people perceive them.
I'm upset with the blatant lies and spin that Obama and his camp have gotten away with.
I'm mad at people for supporting him because he makes them 'feel good'.
I'm FURIOUS that people have the audacity to say that she has no chance, with only one percent less of the vote than him (49 to 48) and 9 primaries ahead of us, Michigan and Florida not yet counted.
I'm OUTRAGED at the implication that Hillary is hurting the party. That she alone has gone negative. That it will be her fault if Barack can't beat John McCain in November.
WAKE UP, people!
