Stone Endorses Reesey

If this campaign season is truly about the themes of change and of transcending politics as usual, then Adriane Reesey is absolutely our girl.

Missing absentee ballots, voting anomalies, miscounting, underrepresentation, and a general lack of accountability have been perpetual overarching themes in Broward County as well as much of the rest of our great state for too long. Instead of occasional missteps, chaos has been the way of life at the voting booth, and the time for a change is overdue.

In Florida perhaps more than anywhere else, we know how critically important it is that every vote be counted accurately and represented evenly. We learned this tough lesson in 2000, when after several recounts, 537 Floridians swung George W Bush onto Pennsylvania Avenue.

As if we needed to be reminded, in 2004 right here in Broward County, as many as 58,000 absentee ballots mysteriously went missing and then reappeared under our current Supervisor of Elections, Brenda Snipes. Combined with other irregularities across the state, Florida again found itself in the middle of hysteria during a critically close election.

Now in 2008, it is imperative that we do not continue this dangerous trend indefinitely. We must restore confidence in the voting public that their voices will be unquestionably and unmistakably heard at the ballot box. Florida should be a trailblazing leader in election reform, no longer the punchline of a joke.

Adriane Reesey knows this well.

She will fight to make sure that every voice is heard. She deeply respects the democratic process, and will ensure that quality controls are in place at every level. Under her management, irregularities will indeed become uncommon.

On August 26th, we will have plenty of difficult decisions on our ballots, but one choice is clear: Adriane Reesey for Supervisor of Elections.
