Chicken and Waffles

Rather than discussing the popular urban treat, let's talk about a gross misdirection of leadership that could go by the same moniker. The horrifying tale begins at the very top, in the White House, and trickles down into our homes and wallets.
Take a look at what some unlikely sources (and some likely ones) think about the state of our leadership, and the real goals of our elected officials:
The Mother of All. A telling compilation of the president's campaign promises reminds us that what we see is often not what we get. The campaign that promised to rise above old politics and bring us above-the-fray honesty and transparency has delivered anything but. Check out the president's own words in the video. If you aren't appalled by he cognitive dissonance, you aren't paying attention.
Who Do You Trust? Mike Huckabee urges us that in the case of Obamacare, the cure may be worse than the malady. He explains why he feels that the government may be a worse steward of our health care decisions and management than the bloodsucking insurance companies. Video worth watching, believe it.
Fake Right, Head Left. In excerpts from a Rolling Stone interview, liberal activist Michael Moore describes how he sees the president's shifty tactics to bait and switch the American people. He applauds and supports the president's deception (contrary to his feelings on alleged deception from the previous administration, mind you):
Friendly Fire. Salon's Camille Paglia, famous feminist and controversial liberal commentator, says she's not sorry she voted for President Obama, but she adds a scathing review of his "amateurish" implementation of his "bait and switch" platform. A must read!
My Country. Comedienne (and lesser known political operative) Victoria Jackson is flabbergasted by the news that the president is asking us to monitor and "snitch" on our neighbors if they say anything we deem "fishy" about the president's battle against health care. She compares the idea to the Soviet Union, and she's not kidding.

We'll have a discussion right there in front of the American people... that builds in accountability into the system, because now that congressman is put on the spot. And I would not underestimate the degree to which shame is a healthy emotion, and that you can shame congress into doing the right thing if people know what's going on.

Look, this guy [Barack Obama] is a very good basketball player – he fakes right and goes left. He says he’s going to keep 50,000 troops in Iraq. But I would be shocked if, three years from now, there are 50,000 troops in Iraq. He says these things to keep the wolves away from the door, and it works. The other side seems to buy it. That’s why I admire his craftiness here.

Buyer's remorse? Not me. At the North American summit in Guadalajara this week, President Obama resumed the role he is best at -- representing the U.S. with dignity and authority abroad. This is why I, for one, voted for Obama and continue to support him. The damage done to U.S. prestige by the feckless, buffoonish George W. Bush will take years to repair. Obama has barely begun the crucial mission that he was elected to do.
Having said that, I must confess my dismay bordering on horror at the amateurism of the White House apparatus for domestic policy. When will heads start to roll? I was glad to see the White House counsel booted, as well as Michelle Obama's chief of staff, and hope it's a harbinger of things to come. Except for that wily fox, David Axelrod, who could charm gold threads out of moonbeams, Obama seems to be surrounded by juvenile tinhorns, bumbling mediocrities and crass bully boys.
Obama's aggressive endorsement of a healthcare plan that does not even exist yet, except in five competing, fluctuating drafts, makes Washington seem like Cloud Cuckoo Land. The president is promoting the most colossal, brazen bait-and-switch operation since the Bush administration snookered the country into invading Iraq with apocalyptic visions of mushroom clouds over American cities.
You can keep your doctor; you can keep your insurance, if you're happy with it, Obama keeps assuring us in soothing, lullaby tones. Oh, really? And what if my doctor is not the one appointed by the new government medical boards for ruling on my access to tests and specialists? And what if my insurance company goes belly up because of undercutting by its government-bankrolled competitor? Face it: Virtually all nationalized health systems, neither nourished nor updated by profit-driven private investment, eventually lead to rationing.

I scour the internet and find that the conservative big shots are now fully engaged in this battle against our government. I send in two emails to flag@whitehouse.gov. I figure I’m already on their “list.” One of my emails says, “Is this a joke?” One says, “How dare you attack our Freedom of Speech! Stop the Snitch Program! It’s illegal!” So, you see, I’m really, really on their “list.” I’m wondering what will happen to the people on “the list.” Audit? Jail? Death? I’m starting to feel exactly the same as the Soviets and the Cubans. I now understand perfectly why they risked their lives heading to Miami on rafts. The fear is palpable. The invisible oppression of being watched. The White House is trying to intimidate my fellow Americans from speaking out, from asking questions about this Socialized Medicine. Nancy Pelosi is on TV saying we wear swastikas! What planet is she from? It’s all a jumble of anger and fear and lies. My country.
Did you really copy text from Victoria Jackson? She has proved to be almost delusional. Have you read any of her other work? She's out of her mind. Have you watched her on TV? I highly suggest you do. She has no grasp on reality.
You might not like that the President is doing on healthcare (I mean, he's only helping to insure millions of people and provide them a better quality of life) but you had to post from a woman who has compared Obama to Hitler and is saying that our policy disagreements in the United States are making her want to flee? Say what you will but to compare the United States to Cuba or Russia is just nutty. There are plenty of capitalist societies with socialized medicine.
Afucfguy18, why does it matter who he posts from? Is the truth any less valid because it comes from a crazy person? Even the craziest among us have at least a few lucid points to make. She has a valid point. Discounting this comment because of other ones she's made makes me wonder whether you can separate a comment from a person who makes it. You spent more of your time pulling her apart than the comment.
