Flag Day
Culture 10:02 AM
by Sheela Venero of Drawnlines Politics.
On this day in 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution adopting the flag for the United States of America. It wasn't until President Wilson's proclamation in 1916 did June 14th officially become Flag Day. So fly your flag proudly, sing the anthem and say the pledge. Let us not forget the brave men and women who have lost their lives, or put their lives on the line for us each and every day. I hope you are proud to be an American in the land of the free and the home of the brave.
It is the Soldier

It is the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of press.
It is the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier,
not the campus organizer, who gives us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the Soldier
who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag
