Medicare: Hold Democrats Accountable
Editor's Desk, Medicare, Nation, NY26, Paul Ryan 3:50 AM
This week, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel ran a letter to the editor that I submitted, regarding a special election in NY-26 as a referendum on the Paul Ryan budget. Democrats scared old people about Medicare to nationalize the election; the media was M-I-A on holding them accountable for their own plan. Here is an excerpt:
Rep. Ryan had the courage to tell the truth about entitlement spending. His proposal is less radical than the Democrat Doc Fix and actually protects seniors from cuts. He preserves the safety net for future generations while offering Americans more say in their care. It is responsible, not villainous.
Still, Democrats smelled blood in the water. Instead of putting forward their first budget in two years, they launched a cheap political attack. They told old people that Republicans wanted to push them over a cliff — literally. Did they get blowback from the pundit class? No. Their misleading attacks went unanswered, and they were rewarded with a new seat in Congress.
