Wisconsin: Collective Bargaining Abuse is Dead

Politico: Judge Sumi strikes down collective bargaining law, later overturned
The Wisconsin Supreme Court handed Governor Scott Walker and the Republican-majority legislature a huge victory this week by overturning a ruling to void a law that restricts abusive collective bargaining among public employees.  Circuit Court Judge Maryann Sumi struck down the law last month, claiming that the legislature violated open meeting laws by passing the bill less than two hours after calling for a vote.  Democrat lawmakers fled the state to block passage of the controversial legislation, and some argued that the surprise vote did not provide enough time for them to return to the capitol.  The state Supreme Court voted 4-3 that Judge Sumi overstepped her authority by striking the law down. According to the Associated Press, "Walker has said the law is needed to help address the state's $3.6-billion budget shortfall and give local governments enough flexibility on labor costs to deal with deep cuts in state aid."
