100 Years of Reagan

On Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday, we honor his legacy by remembering his ability to inspire.
You see, when Republicans explain what's great about our Party, we find it impossible to do without mentioning Ronald Reagan. People sometimes roll their eyes and it's become cliche, but Reagan is a pillar and icon of our Party that cannot be ignored. He did for the GOP the same thing he did for America: he taught us to believe in bold ideas and gave us a reason to be proud of ourselves again.
Imagine if Jimmy Carter got four more years in the White House. American businesses would continue to shutter as productivity fell and inflation gobbled up profits. American families would fall further behind while across the globe the Soviet empire marched forward unchecked.
Jimmy Carter's America was on a path toward less prosperity, less freedom, and more danger. Voters came together to draw a line in the sand in 1980, and not a moment too soon. That was Reagan's rendezvous with destiny.
Who besides Reagan would have the courage to call the "Evil Empire" what it was, or cast it into the ash heap of history? Who would calm and reassure school children watching as Challenger suddenly stopped soaring to the heavens? Who could make us fundamentally change the way we think about the role of government? Who would dare to stand at the Brandenburg Gate and call for an insidious wall to be torn down? Who would lead us through the darkness of night until it was once more "Morning in America"?
Growing up in the age of Reagan is a special privilege for which my generation should be thankful. President Reagan was truly America's lifeguard, and the whole world is better off for his years in the people's house. So on this day we do well to honor the man who reassured us that we are on the right side of history when we bet on freedom.
Join me in celebrating 100 years of Reagan by thanking The Gipper for winning a few for freedom. Cherish these messages from the "Great Communicator" and contemplate how special America truly is.
