Our Greatest Presidents
Nation, Ronald Reagan 8:30 AM
by Nick Stone of Drawnlines Politics.
Today, Americans honor Washington and Lincoln's February birthdays. I'd like to add another to the list.
Presidents Day is more than just a day off for bankers, federal employees, and school children. This neglected holiday was originally a celebration of Washington's birthday. Later, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act (also known as the Uniform Holidays Bill) of 1968 created a compromise celebrating the February birthdays of two iconic presidents. George Washington, our first president and Abraham Lincoln, the people's favorite president, are now both honored on the Monday holiday.
This February, Americans honored the birthday of yet another iconic president of the United States. Ronald Reagan's centennial birthday was celebrated by Americans from all walks of life. We remember Reagan as a man who freed our economy, reversed the forward march of Totalitarianism, and renewed American pride and trust. Today, a plurality of Americans call Reagan the Greatest President.
On this President's Day let's honor three presidents of distinction and tip our hats to Washington, Lincoln, and Reagan.
