Fire Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Karen Harrington addresses crowd, primary victory, August 2010

South Florida business owner Karen Harrington launched her 2012 campaign at family owned Rickey's Restaurant on Wednesday.  Harrington, who won the GOP nomination last year, hopes to again secure the nod and go on to fight Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz has represented Florida's 20th District since her election in 2004.  Her deep blue district has created a playing field so tilted away from the Republican Party that many of her re-elections have gone without serious contest.  But last year, a frustrated Harrington felt it was her calling to stand up and take on the entrenched politician.  Though the district is numerically challenging to any Republican opponent, Karen believes that a Democrat can be taken down - especially one as far out of touch as Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Rep. Wasserman Schultz is the ultimate example of a political elite.  She came of age in Florida's political class and inherited her current seat from the legendary liberal Peter Deutsch.  After spending her several terms in Congress championing the furthest left wing causes and candidates, she was recently hand picked by President Obama to serve as Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).  She is known as a hyper-partisan who calls for civility, only to launch the worst kind of political attacks against Republicans.  Closer to Nancy Pelosi than her own constituents, some believe that no amount of gerrymandering or politics can save DWS from defeat.

Karen Harrington's compelling background resonates more closely with the people of her District than the incumbent.  She comes from a working class family that emigrated from New England to give their children a better future in the Sunshine State.  She learned the value of hard work and American enterprise through her family business, which eventually expanded from one restaurant to three.  Karen knows the hardships of business because she's signed both sides of a paycheck, balanced a budget, and had to look employees in the eye to let them go.  It's her background as a mother, grandmother and business owner that makes Harrington concerned with politicians like Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

Harrington mounted an aggressive insurgent campaign against Wasserman Schultz last year and managed to garner 38 percent of the vote.  Next year, she hopes national attention and antipathy toward the DNC Chair will ensure Republican victory.  Harrington has already raised awareness with the website www.FireDebbie.com and high profile interviews with outlets like Newsmax and radio host Mark Levin.  With support from upset voters across South Florida and the nation, the Republican is sure to assemble an army of door knockers, phone callers, and campaign donors.

All eyes will be watching to see if one of the most liberal members of Congress can be taken down on some of the safest political turf in America.
