Pam Bondi -- Post Session "Report to the People" from The Victory Group on Vimeo.

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi sent out a video this week, highlighting the many victories related to her office. The AG's office worked with the legislature to secure both partisan and bipartisan victories during the 2011 session. According to the Republican Party of Florida, "Bondi's legislative agenda included support for bills to stop prescription drug abuse, ban a dangerous new drug, separate the restoration of civil rights from requirements for occupational licensure, and affirm that no Floridian should be compelled by government to purchase health insurance." Pam Bondi has proven her mettle in short order. She deserves tremendous credit for landing these exciting victories on behalf of Florida.

This and other news available 24/7 on our Facebook Page:

• Kurt Browning returns as Secretary of State.  Governor Rick Scott appointed Browning, who served in the position, to oversee Florida elections.  Browning is a strong advocate for strict voter ID matching and against so-called "Fair Districts Florida."

• Pam Bondi takes over the fight against Obamacare.  In Wednesday's WSJ, Bondi says that if Obamacare is constitutional, then there are virtually no limits to the grip of federal control.

• Boehner Takes the Gavel:  The end of the Pelosi era took place this week as a sarcastic Nancy Pelosi handed the gavel of power over to a weepy incoming Speaker John Boehner.

• How Gays Can Save the GOP:  One writer talks about how a gay infiltration of the Republican Party could benefit both factions and change attitudes.  Could it work, and would it be a good idea?

•  Obama policies driving up fuel prices. Where is the outrage?  As gas prices top $3 a gallon again, the Obama administration has cut supply and increased our dependence on foreign oil.

On Friday August 24th, Florida's Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp came to Boca Raton for a campaign rally several South Florida community leaders set up on his behalf.  We came out to support Jeff Kottkamp because we believe that his values of faith, family, freedom are exactly what Florida needs in our next attorney general. The enthusiastic crowd was exactly what any candidate would want in the final days of a hotly contested campaign, and Jeff rocked the house with his clear vision for Florida's future.

This week, three excellent candidates for attorney general of Florida addressed the Broward REC.  I personally thought Jeff Kottkamp rose above the rest with his compelling vision for Florida.  Check out these videos and more at our premium sponsor Politics Happens.

Jeff Kottkamp at Broward REC part 1

Jeff Kottkamp on Obamacare: "This legal challenge isn't about health care.  It's about freedom.  Does the constitution mean what it says?  Does the tenth amendment mean what it says?  Are we as a people going to say to the federal government 'Enough is enough' and draw a line in the sand and say 'No more!'?"

Jeff Kottkamp on our time for choosing: "As I said in my opening, these are important times... In 1964, Ronald Reagan gave a speech called 'A Time For Choosing'... as you sit in this room, at this moment, this is our generation's time for choosing.  The choices we make in the next two election cycles will determine the fate of this country for the next 50 to 100 years, if not forever.  The stakes are really that high.  This is the cycle where if you've got a neighbor right across the street... and you politely wave to each other a couple of times a week - you've gotta go across the street this time.  You've gotta tell them why you're voting Republican.  You've gotta tell them that the stakes are so high for the future of your children and your grandchildren. Tell them what's in your heart - why you believe in these principles of the Republicans with everything in your body.  They need to know that, they need to see your passion and understand how important this is."

Pam Bondi is touring Florida asking Republican voters for their vote of confidence, but does she know what she stands for? Recent developments call into question what kind of Attorney General Bondi would be.

As the August 24 primary rapidly approaches, the once front runner has seemingly lost some steam. Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp has closed the gap in fundraising and far surpassed her in endorsements. Straw poll totals are all over the place, but the trend is turning against her. All signs point to a real horse race between now and Election Day.

The St Pete Times ran an article yesterday citing Bondi’s shaky voting record and history as a registered Democrat. This coupled with an earlier article questioning Bondi’s grasp of issues like Florida’s famous Amendment 1 on property tax cuts might lead Republican voters to think twice before casting their ballots.

To be clear, we should not cast aspersions on people for leaving the Democratic Party and joining the Republicans. If someone honestly believes in Republican values, they should proudly leave behind their old ties. We could only hope that Republicans would welcome new brothers (and sisters for you P.C. people) in arms just like they did when I left the Democratic Party behind myself.

But Republican voters need a reason to cast their ballot for any particular candidate, and they could be forgiven for not being reassured that Bondi is the right person to carry the GOP torch in November. How can voters support Bondi when she herself doesn’t seem quite clear what she believes in?

Alarmingly, Bondi is the only candidate in the race not listed as taking the “No Climate Tax” pledge.  Would she stand up for Florida's right to sue the federal government for economic damages done to the state if Cap & Trade is implemented?

Both as a Democrat and later a Republican, Bondi admits she missed most primary votes and rarely showed up to voice her opinion or champion conservative causes. Her voter profile shows a mostly blank slate that might prove disconcerting to GOP faithful.  The candidate claims that she voted for several Republicans including Reagan and Bush 41, even as a Democrat. But will that satisfy primary voters?

Worse yet, yesterday’s story reveals that Bondi pledged allegiance to whichever party was politically expedient to her career. According to the Times, “Bondi said she remained a Democrat in the 1980s and 1990s because Democrats dominated the local political landscape.” In other words, it was easier for her to be a Democrat. After Charlie Crist and Arlen Specter, Republicans are rightfully leary of those that could so easily switch between parties for their own political gain.

Apparently Bondi’s deathbed conversion didn’t come until 2000, after her previous boss State Attorney Coe killed himself. But asked why she switched at that time, the candidate seems to have no good answer. At one point she claimed that she switched because she is firmly in line with Republican values. But she has also claimed that she simply cannot recall the reason. If she is going to be the nominee, she’d better have more reassuring answers for the GOP faithful.

All three candidates vying for the nomination will attend the Broward Republican Executive Committee meeting on July 26th.
